#84: Filed a police report . Long story short, I left my keys in a public restroom, and someone found my car and opened it, stealing my GPS and about $60 from my wallet. Sad day, but I’m thankful they didn’t steal my car and actually returned my keys (even if they did lock them in my car). I filed my first police report, and I’m fairly certain I found my GPS on Craigslist… it was a shady post for my exact model, and it went up a day after it was stolen. I told the cop about it, but don’t really want to carry out my own investigation… not worth the risk.
#85: Skyped with Jaimie. On a brighter note, I got to Skype with my friend Jaimie! It was actually my first time Skyping, despite the fact that she’s been begging me to get one for years now. She showed me how to make funny video effects, and I played her some songs on guitar. She’ll be in Israel for a year, and in NYC for the years following that, so I have a feeling we’ll be doing this often!
#86: Guest speaker. I showed up to my Wednesday class only to find that nobody was there. It turns out, the professor sent a cancellation email to apparently everyone but me… but in exchange, we were required to see a guest speaker (and I can’t for the life of me remember her name), but she went to Cranbrook for art school, and ended up in San Fransisco and NYC as well. She had an interesting life, and I’m glad I went, but she talked mostly about her personal life, and not her design projects. In fact, she skipped several interesting-looking slides because of the time restraints. I ended up running into a lot of friends there though, so it was definitely worthwhile!
#87-88: Tuba Museum. Every time I drive from home to East Lansing, I pass this quirky little place that is a tuba museum / restaurant hybrid. And obviously, the Travelers Club International Restaurant and Tuba Museum is known for its middle eastern cuisine. So, my parents visited me and we ate there. I tried babaganoosh for the first time (only known to me as “the name they use in every episode of MXC”) and a bison burger — THAT was incredible! Although the place was run by hippies, and the bathrooms were in terrible condition, I think I’ll go back because it’s just weird enough to work.
Because nothing screams “middle eastern food” louder than a bunch of tubas.
#89: Dorito Taco. I’m pretty convinced that I’m among an incredibly low percentage of people who tried this Taco Bell delicacy without being stoned. It was… crunchy… and orange…? Yeah, I still have mixed feelings about this one. Is it necessary? Nah. But was it delicious and fun and a marketing win? Definitely!
#90: Met new people at salsa party. These salsa dancin’ folks keep showing up in my blog, and that’s because there are so dang many of them, and they’re all such great people! I met a handful more at their most recent gathering, and befriended someone who is just as big a Queen and classic rock fan as I am. In fact, he was a roadie for Journey when he was a youngin’. JEALOUS MUCH.
