Trying new things #95-99: Red Wings, wedding, Relay for Life and more.

#95: Shamrock Shake. This one’s long overdue, but I forgot to post it. Amazing that I’ve survived in the land of Spartan green without trying a Shamrock Shake! My neighbor and I usually go for 2 a.m. trips to McDonalds anyways (yay insomnia), so it seemed like an opportune moment to try something new! The shake itself was pretty great, but definitely hyped out of proportion.

Mine looked McNothing like that.

#96: Met new people. I’ve been hanging with salsa people lately, and have become good friends with one in particular. Before this new year’s resolution, I think I’d decline his invitation to a party at which I would know only one person, but I went without a second thought. The night resulted in a Captain Crunch explosion and a Brian Setzer Orchestra dance party. Love it!

#97: Allison’s wedding. This is the first time I’ve ever seen one of my friends get married, and let me tell you, it was powerful. I’m the kind of person who can’t even PICTURE herself getting married yet, so it was quite the experience for me. The bride, Allison, used to sing in the alto section in choir with me, and she is also a die-hard “24″ fan. Once, a few of us attempted to watch an entire season of “24″ (if you didn’t know, 1 hour of the day is an episode, for all 24 hours), but we only made it to about 18 episodes. But back to the wedding – she looked absolutely beautiful, and I came close to crying a couple times. It was also nice because it was a choir-friend reunion, and I saw lots of people that I missed, or had forgotten than I missed. It was love all around, and I couldn’t be happier for my friend! :)

How much cuter can they get?

#98: Red Wings playoff game. I’ve sat in these same back row seats of The Joe before, but never at a Playoff game! Upon arrival, we got these crazy battery-powered red glowsticks, which created possibly the coolest effect I’ve ever seen  when coupled with blacklights. And this is coming from a girl who’s seen Trans-Siberian Orchestra live.

I wonder if there’s an octopus among this sea of Wing-nuts…

My mom and I in our last-row seats.

Dad and I. Fun fact: the season-holders sitting next to us had installed coat hangers on the back wall, haha.

The actual game itself was pretty infuriating though, because the referees were making INSANE calls. They’d throw my boys in the penalty box (especially Franzen) for the slightest offense, but then pretend not to see blatant tripping and holding from Nashville. I know what you’re saying: Oh, she just wanted her team to win. But the calls got so obnoxiously biased that by the beginning of the third period, the entire arena booed the refs when they came on the ice. Ouch.

#99: Relay For Life. Coming from a family with enough cancer to go around, it’s surprising I’ve never attended MSU’s Relay For Life event before (although, I’ve done Race For The Cure a few times). I signed up with my PRSSA chapter, and volunteered for 3 hours, which was mostly spent setting up a tent (that we had no idea how to assemble) in icy spurts of rain. Thankfully, a random dad-like figure came to the rescue, and we were able to chill (literally) in the tent. I went around and donated money to other booths, and even saw a couple friends! It was a good experience, but I might suggest that next year they do this when it’s actually nice out.
